Day 1 - Welcome Dinner and Introduction to Portuguese Wines. We’ll walk to a nearby wine store for a fun evening in their cellar where we’ll “travel” through the main wine regions of Portugal – tasting the winegrown in each region and learning about the grapes and style of wine made there. Along with the wines, we’ll enjoy an assortment of Portuguese snacks to make our casual dinner.
Day 2 - Food & Wine Walking Tour. A historical, cultural, and culinary overview of the city with a local guide. You’ll get to know the Chiado area, Rossio, downtown’s main streets, and theTejo riverfront area. We’ll also visit the Barrio Alto neighborhood.While walking, we will taste iconic and delicious snacks (petiscos) that every Lisbonner loves, accompanied by a glass of good Portuguese wine. Evening on your own to explore the city.
Day 3 - Market Tour and Cooking Class with local chef. We will visit the beautiful and historic Mercado da Ribeira with a local chef to buy fresh ingredients for our meal. The chef’s Cooking School is located at theMarket where we will learn to prepare a typical Portuguese lunch, accompanied by a glass of wine (typically Vinho Verde), with dessert. Free afternoon then group dinner where we’ll walk together to the restaurant located in a truly unique building for a four-course meal with a paired with wines for each course. The original designation of this space is Chafariz da Mãe-de-Água (literally, spring of the well-head). It forms part of Lisbon’s historical Aqueduct system commissioned by King João V, in 1731 with a complex series of underground galleries, arches and skylights scattered throughout the city. The dining roomis linked to the reservoir on Príncipe Real as well as with the Praça da Alegria.
Day 4 - Bread Workshop. We will visit a working wind mill outside of Lisbon. This will be an opportunity to see some beautiful views of the countryside of Portugal. Our day includes a breadmaking workshop with a tasting and lunch. Evening on your own to explore the city.
Day 5 - Campo de Ourique Food & Cultural Walk. Campo de Ourique is a 19th century neighborhood full of restaurants and pastry shops where many famous characters lived. The tour is run in the morning,so we can visit the fish stall and vendors at the market. This revitalized neighborhood is booming with new restaurant concepts, a renovated food market and other food shops. We will have seven stops with food tastings in this unique, off-the-beaten-path part of Lisbon.
Day 6 - Our tour will start with a guided visit to the magical Pena Palace in Sintra. It will be followed by a tasting of the famous pastry (Travesseiros) of Sintra. Lunch will be traditional Portuguese cuisine accompanied by a good Portuguese wine. After lunch, we’ll walk a short distance to visit a historic winery with a tasting of Colares Wines. Later in the day, we’ll have a cooking class in the home of a Portuguese family with a view of the Atlantic where we will prepare dinner with vegetables from their garden, enjoying the fruits of our labor while the sun sets.
